Who is The Naked Horseman?

Jason graduated from Edinburgh University with a BSc in Agriculture before embarking on a career in both the British and New Zealand militaries.  He reflects on his journey so far as, “an interesting series of challenging and diverse experiences.”

One of his entrepreneurial ventures – The Naked Horseman – was developed after friends encouraged him to combine three of the things he loves to spend time on; horses, writing and leadership.  Jason describes the horse as ‘a superb and formidable teacher’; using horses, he runs training for people that helps evolve their ability to set conditions for success.  Clients – whether individuals or corporate – engage Jason to provide challenging and authentic personal and team development.  “We attract clients who value the ability to think differently about things, to be constructively challenged and importantly who don’t just want ideas, but action too!”

Jason says. “….anyone can preach or write about how important people are – it sounds convincing, even alluring, and therefore makes for an easy bandwagon to either drive or hop aboard.  What is more difficult – and perhaps why we see so few spend so little time, investment and effort on it – is to focus on the quality of the interaction, the relationships, the partnerships; its about the bonds we have with the people as leaders.  When the circumstances are challenging and things are not going the way you planned, it is the quality of those bonds that will help get you out of the tricky situation – trust me on that.”

“I have found that the horse is  fantastic at helping us learn how to enhance the ways in which we interact.  The horse doesn’t care who you are, or what reputation might have been built up around you, or how good a leader you might think you are – you have to earn it! Nothing helps you learn a healthy dose of humility and patience like a horse.”

Thriving in environments where there are difficult problems to tackle, Jason is also sought out to consult on diverse topics (from issues such as the development of organisational culture, cattle-rustling, high performance development, change, security matters and strategy).  His consultancy firm, The Chester Group,  helps provide individuals and organisations with independent thought, alternative analysis and innovative solutions.

Since he started blogging in June 2014, The Naked Horseman’s blogs are being followed in 81 countries!  “Blogging was just an outlet for me to express and share ideas through – and to be challenged in my own thinking. It never really dawned on me that other people might be interested in what I might have to say – but I am pleased to find they are and grateful for the support and feedback

Jason completed study for a Masters of International Security in June 2015
